I have to thank you for your letter of 19th instant enclosing copy of a telegram from the Officer administrating the Government of Hongkong to Lord Knutsford, from which telegram it would appear that this Bank had tendered there security in the shape China Merchants Steam Navigation Co's Debentures to the extent of $1,250,000 more than the amount of $25,00,000 agreed upon.

I have no information from the Hongkong Office on the subject, but I think it unlikely that a larger amount has been tendered than was agreed under the Bank's amended ordinance.
